Self Employment Ideas: Actually Becoming Self Employed

Possibly the most difficult aspect of searching self employment ideas is taking the next step and actually becoming self employed. There are so many scams put out there by nefarious characters who feed off the ambitious beginners that it is difficult to know who’s advice is trustworthy. What makes the internet so cool is the free flow of information, but that can also make it a very dangerous place. For this reason, it is imperative that a whole lot of time should be invested in research. The problem can be that we never move beyond the research phase. It is very scary to take the leap and start-up a business of our own. The idea of risking what hard earned money we have on a venture that could fail can be frightening. This is when cold, hard tenacity must kick-in. The main reason most successful entrepreneurs make it is because they refuse to quit, no matter what obstacles are thrown in front of them. So, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and take the plunge into e-commerce.
Even with all of my research, it is still overwhelming to approach all that needs to be done to start an enterprise. First a website is needed with a domain, and what the hell is a domain, anyway? Then, in order to get traffic to the website, a link to the site had better come-up when someone does a Google search for the product or service that I am offering. This requires something called SEO. Thank goodness for Wikipedia. SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization. Simply put, it is how to get to the front of the line when someone does a search on Google, Yahoo, etc. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of e-books and articles written on this subject alone. Fortunately, there are reputable experts online who can help cut through the nonsense. Unfortunately, just like the rest of us, they need to earn a living, so their knowledge is not free. That is not to say one cannot learn it all without purchasing tutorials, e-books, and tools. Many of these experts did exactly that, but that is making a long bumpy road even longer. In my case, after researching several tutorials and e-books, I decided to purchase a particular system of tutorials, videos, and tools. It is very reasonably priced, considering all that it contains. So, how is it going?
For the most part, the system has been great, but it is important to understand that software is updated constantly, so right after a tutorial is written or a video is made, newer versions of the software are released. Now, the tutorial or video is less accurate. This can be frustrating at times, especially for newbies. Thankfully, the tutorials and videos are also updated regularly, as well, but it is impossible to keep-up with every software update. I can happily report that my website is up and is steadily moving up in the search engine rankings. Make no mistake though, it will be a long haul before I start to see any profit from my endeavor.
I suppose it is like anything else in life. We get out of it what we put into it. The important thing is to try. I am not sure how everything will turn-out in the end, but I am sure that if I do not try, there will not be any outcome, positive or otherwise. So, overcome those fears and take that next step to becoming self employed. After all, the many hours spent researching self employment ideas is all for nothing if you never actually become self employed.
